The evolution of multigene families under intrachromosomal gene conversion.
A model for the evolution of the probabilities of genetic identity within and between loci of a multigene family in a finite population is formulated and investigated. Unbiased intrachromosomal gene conversion, equal crossing over between tandemly repeated genes, random genetic drift and mutation to new alleles are incorporated. Generations are discrete and nonoverlapping; the diploid, monoecio...

We consider an evolution algebra which corresponds to a bisexual population with a set of females partitioned into finitely many different types and the males having only one type. For such algebras in terms of its structure constants we calculate right and plenary periods of generator elements. Some results on subalgebras of EACP and ideals on low-dimensional EACP are obtained.
متن کاملGene Conversion and Evolution of Gene Families: An Overview
The importance of gene conversion for the evolution of gene families is reviewed. Four problems concerning gene conversion, i.e., concerted evolution, generation of useful variation, deleterious effects, and relation to neofunctionalization, are discussed by surveying reported examples of evolving gene families. Emphasis is given toward understanding interactive effects of gene conversion and n...

Neofunctionalization occurs when a neofunctionalized allele is fixed in one of duplicated genes. This is a simple fixation process if duplicated genes accumulate mutations independently. However, the process is very complicated when duplicated genes undergo concerted evolution by gene conversion. Our simulations demonstrate that the process could be described with three distinct stages. First, ...
